Workplace Wellness@Your Library Symposium: Austin, TX, 23-24 March 2012

Here's a 'save the date' message about the 2012 Workplace Wellness@Your Library Symposium!

What:  Workplace wellness is the quality or state of being in good health. It is the balance of many factors—social, environmental, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical. The Workplace Wellness@ Your Library Symposium will provide an opportunity to share the background and strategies for promoting healthy workplaces and lifestyles among library workers. The Symposium will present tailored resources, customized training on using and other NLM products/services, practice with seated exercise routines, and an opportunity to share news about grassroots efforts in libraries.

Who: The Symposium is organized by Dr. Loriene Roy, Professor, School of Information, The University of Texas at Austin. She is assisted by Dr.Yan Zhang, Assistant Professor, and Ms. Marjory Gibson, Senior Student Associate, also of the School of Information, The University of Texas at Austin. This project has been funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, under Contract No. HHSN-276-2011-00007-C with the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library.

When:  Friday, 23 March 2012, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, 24 March 2012, 9:00 a.m. – noon.

Where:  School of Information, The University of Texas at Austin,
  1616 Guadalupe St., Room 1.208
  Austin, TX 78701-1213

This is a free symposium. Face-to-face attendees will cover their own transportation, lodging, and meals. We expect 50 to 75 on-site attendees representing libraries that have launched workplace wellness activities and those that plan to do so. Since the gathering is small and results will be widely shared, we ask interested libraries to send, at the most, one or two representatives.  Pre- and post-symposium discussions and communication will take place on the Symposium Facebook event, Workplace Wellness@Your Library blog, and website (  Follow the website for updates. Contact Dr. Roy at with any questions. Thank you for your interest! A registration form will be available soon.
